Q. Do I need a Server/Stand Alone license or can I just use a Client license?

A. A Server/Stand Alone license is required for any site using one or more copies of CaféTimePro. A Client installation will not work without a networked licensed Server. For a single computer only a Server/Stand Alone license is required. For more than one computer a Server/Stand Alone license is required for one computer and the remainder must all be Client licenses.

Q. What are the guidelines for creating my own HTML page?

A. There are many tools and word processors that you can use to create you own front screen (HTML page). For best performance use the following guidelines.

1) An HTML page should be 800 x 600 pixels in size.

2) Never put a link that accesses the Internet on the front screen (HTML page). A customer could then bypass the timers by selecting the link.

3) If an image is to be used set it as the background for the HTML page.

4) If links are to be used to access locations on the Internet they should ONLY be available on the Default Browser page (see CaféTimePro Help for more details).

5) Place your HTML pages in the appropriate folder under the folder cafetime.

Q. How do I set up CaféTimePro in a network environment?

A. This answer assumes the computers on your network are running the TCPIP protocol and have been configured correctly.  For more information on configuring your network for TCPIP refer to Help in CaféTimePro.

1) First install on a computer CaféTimePro as a Server.  This server installation will have the database installed to track all transactions (sessions) for itself (the Server) and any Client installations.

2) Install CaféTimePro as a Client on a different PC on your network.

3) On the CaféTimePro Server, go into options and on the General Tab press the Register a Client computer on this Server button. Press the Add button.  Enter in the Client PC computer's Network Name and the Activation Key Code (License Key) .

4) On the Client PC register CaféTimePro with your Client Activation Key (License).

5) In order for CaféTimePro server to record the Client computers sessions we have to tell the CaféTimePro Client program where the server database is located.  To do this go into Options on the Client computer and select the Logs Tab and press the Set Log File Path button.  Press the Locate button and select the Logs.mdb file located on the CaféTimePro SERVER computer.  This file will be located in the following folder assuming you installed CaféTimePro on the C drive in the default location:

"C:\Program files\cafetime\databases"

6) Repeat the above steps 2-5 for all client computers.

Q. How do I secure CaféTimePro so that customers can't do harmful things to the computer?

A. To secure CaféTimePro from unwanted access it must be in "LockedDown" mode. To lock down CaféTimePro go into Options via the key button on the Timer Control Bar and on the General tab press the Lock Down button.  the computer will require a reboot to enable the security features.

Also, to disable the ability of customers to download files disable this feature from the Control panel in Windows. Open Internet Options in the Windows Control Panel and select the Security tab.  Press the Custom Level button and scroll down to the heading Downloads. Under the sub heading File Downloads select Disable.

Q. My customers are having trouble accessing AOL. How do I correct this?

A. AOL uses popup windows and Java Scripting on their site that interferes with CaféTimePro's browser. When a popup window is activated the browser in CaféTimePro redirects the popup back to the main browser so that the customer views the information in the popup window.  This is done so that useful popup windows, such as an address book,  can be viewed.  However, with AOL's scripting this can lock the customer in a loop.  To correct this anomaly we recommend temporarily disabling scripting by opening Internet Options in the Control Panel, selecting the Security tab, pressing the Custom Level button and locating the entry under Scripting named Active Active Scripting and selecting Disable.

The next step is to start an Internet session in CaféTimePro and go to www.aol.com and then to AOL Mail.  Copy the URL from the Address Bar (highlight the text and press Ctrl-C). End the session and go into Options and on the General tab press the Web Browser Settings button.  Create a button for AOL and paste the URL (Ctrl-V) into the URL: text field.  Press the Save button.

Next go back and re-enable Active Scripting in the Control Panel as explained above.  This must be done or the customer will not be able to access their email correctly.

At the time of this writing the URL for AOL mail was:

http://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/login/login.psp?siteId=atlasaol&authLev=2&mcState=initialized&triedAimAuth=y

Q. Under XP the windows don't seem to fit correctly (the bar on top is partially visible)

A. When running CaféTimePro under Windows XP the "Windows Theme"  should be set to "Windows Classic".  to do this open Display in the Control panel and select the "themes" tag.  Set the theme to "Windows Classic".
